Enjoy getting to know, Tatyana Kasima.
Thank you for joining me today. Tell us in three words how you would best describe your writing.
It is short.
Share your favorite passage from your book in one paragraph or less.
“Throw the lumber over, man! Let your boat of life be light, packed with only what you need – a homely home and simple pleasures, one or two friends, worth the name, someone to love and someone to love you, a cat, a dog, and a pipe or two, enough to eat and enough to wear, and a little more than enough to drink; for thirst is a dangerous thing.” Jerome K. Jerome “Three Men in a Boat”
You’ve been presented with the opportunity to be a best-selling author but can never write again or write forever but never have a bestseller. Which scenario sounds more tempting?
I cannot imagine not writing again, it seems what is the point of having one bestseller if you are not able to progress and develop.
If you could live on a college campus and never leave or in a small town but be able to travel, which one would you choose?
It would definitely be the second option, even now I live in a small town with opportunities to travel and that’s why I have chosen it. That’s where my heart belongs. So this question is easy to answer.
Okay, how about in an amusement park or an airport?
Actually, I love amusement parks, they are both fun and creepy. We have this make shift amusement park in my city, I went their this summer and the owner spoke a language I have never heard before… so it added even more mysterious air around it. As for the airport, well, traveling to the airport is a beginning of a journey already, so if you mean, if it is ok that it is not in this small town I live in, it is all right. Btw, the place where I live has an aiport.
And how about Australia or Scotland?
I would love to go to those places and to live there for some time and write. I would love to hear different English accents and learn more about the culture.
Who is your favorite 90’s band (I’m thinking Counting Crows, Blink 182, Hootie & the Blowfish)?
Haha, I am not thinking about those 90’s bands. I grew up in Ukraine, so my culural backgroud is different in this respect. Red Hot Chili Peppers?
Is there any good band out there today that we’ll talk about in 50 years?
Good question. Lately, I have been listening to more music that I normally do. I actually think Madonna but as for a band…
And what about your favorite comedy on TV (My favorite is The Office)?
Friends.
Is there anything you’re currently working on?
I am constantly picking up ideas for short stories, everywhere I go. Currently, I am working on a story about a cat in an Italian church, and a story about a girl who is trying to get out of he comfort zone. I hope these were mysterious enough.
Who is your favorite author and if you could ask him/her one question, what would it be?
Joanne Harris, Erin Morgenstern and Alexander McCall Smith. I would absolutely love to meet them and have a casual conversation just talking about the weather because it is not about what you are talking about with a write it is how you are talking about it.
Lightning round:
Ocean or mountains? Ocean
Yogurt or ice cream? Yogurt
M & M’s or Skittles? M&M’s
The Daily Show or The Colbert Report? The Daily Show
Happy or sad ending to a novel? Happy ( this was difficult)
Beer or wine? Wine
Flying or driving? Hmmmm driving
Hemingway or Twain? Hemingway
You’re stranded on a desert island and you can take two things with you as well as two people. What and who are you bringing?
People is a difficult question. I would love to be my friend Jenny there for sure. So, my best friend. As for things, I would refer you to the paragraph I quoted in the beginning of the interview, but maybe a box of matches and a book would be good.
You’re able to sit down with any leader in world history. Who would you choose, what would you talk about, and would you rather have him over to your house or meet at their place of royalty?
Interesting. I would rather meet at his/her house. Who the person is, yesterday I watched a movie about Lady Di, I would have loved to meet her. Yet again, it is not important what you talk about as much as how you are talking about it and how you talk about things in general.
You can wish for one thing and one thing only, not world peace and no more wishes. What’s it gonna be? 🙂
Time. I am not sure what I mean by it but time.
