I didn’t know exactly what to expect heading into this novel, but I was pleasantly surprised. Donoghue tells the story through the eyes of 5-year-old, Jack, and that is what truly makes this novel good. It’s the perfect mixture of heartache and redemption, with just enough twists to keep it unpredictable. I found myself constantly wanting to know what would happen next, even until the end. It’s not quite a 5-star novel, but a solid 4-stars, for sure.
