Thank you for joining me today. Tell us in three words how you would best describe your writing.

Emotional, psychological, thought-provoking.

Your book, Forever and One Day, was released February 6, 2018. Share a passage that you’d like for us to enjoy.

Now she looked at him and felt the what if washing over her. The desire to touch him, to remember how his lips felt kissing her mouth, her skin, her hair, felt irresistible. She gulped.

He stared into her eyes and she felt a kiss coming. Their faces hovered in an awkward dance as their mouths drew closer. She could feel the warmth of his breath against her lips. My gosh, she shivered, leaned in, then quickly pulled back. She broke the eye contact. Trying to shake the sensation, she gulped down some wine. “Justin. We can’t.”

You’ve been presented with the opportunity to be a best-selling author, but can never write again, or write forever, but never have a best seller. Which scenario sounds more tempting?

I would choose to continue writing.

If you could live on a college campus and never leave, or live in a small town but be able to travel, which one would you choose?

Small town, but be able to travel.

Okay, how about in an amusement park or in an airport?

Airport

And how about Ireland or Australia?

Australia

Who is your favorite band from the 90s (I’m thinking Counting Crows, Blink 182, Hootie & the Blowfish)?

I love so many 90’s bands, but if I have to pick I choose Pearl Jam.

Are there any good bands out there today that we’ll talk about in 50 years?

I’m sure there are, but I’m not too familiar with newer music. I’m still listening to 90’s alternative rock bands.

And what about your favorite comedy on TV (My favorite is still The Office)?

Frasier reruns.

Is there anything you’re currently working on?

I’m working on two romance novels.

Who is your favorite author, and if you could ask him/her one question, what would it be?

Irvin Yalom. I was fortunate enough to have met him and I got to ask him my question which was: How much was your fictional book, Lying on the Couch, based on real life circumstances?

unnamed

Ocean or mountains? Mountains

Yogurt or ice cream? Yogurt

Chocolate or Sour Candy? Chocolate

You’re stranded on a desert island, and you can take two things with you, as well as two people. What and who are you bringing?

Food and blankets. My husband and my dad.

You’re able to sit down with any leader in world history. Who would you choose, what would you talk about, and would you rather have him/her over to your house, or meet at their place of royalty?

Martin Luther King, Jr.

I’d like to hear his thoughts on the political atmosphere of today. I’d enjoy visiting him at his home.

Thank you for joining me today. Tell us in three words how you would best describe your writing.

Steamy. Romantic. Intense.

Your book, Taming Ivy. was released August 10, 2017. Share a passage that you’d like for us to enjoy.

Ivy did not seem prepared for war after all. One little skirmish and she folded with astonishing haste. Her wide eyes reminded him of a panicked doe, a wounded shimmer in the aqua depths. Her bottom lip visibly trembled. Incredibly, infuriatingly, Sebastian wanted to press his mouth to hers to tame its lush quiver. Damn, he’d forfeit his soul to taste the skin of that delicate collarbone, the nape of her neck, the soft underside of her breast…soothing the hurt he just inflicted.

You’ve been presented with the opportunity to be a best-selling author, but can never write again, or write forever, but never have a best seller. Which scenario sounds more tempting?

Write forever and never have a best seller, but in doing so, give readers an escape they love.

If you could live on a college campus and never leave, or live in a small town but be able to travel, which one would you choose?

Oh, the small town and travel option for sure! I love to travel but coming home is always awesome.

Okay, how about in an amusement park or in an airport?

Amusement park. My favorite place to visit is Disney World!

And how about Ireland or Australia?

Ireland! Planning on going there in 2019…it’s my dream vacation!

Who is your favorite band from the 90s (I’m thinking Counting Crows, Blink 182, Hootie & the Blowfish)?

Stone Temple Pilots

Are there any good bands out there today that we’ll talk about in 50 years?

Foo Fighters, Van Halen are old favorites, but I’m liking Kaleo (they are new band from Iceland) and Highly Suspect from the East Coast. Jack White (White Stripes, Raconteurs, Dead Weather)- the man is unappreciated genius. And I believe we will always talk about The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

And what about your favorite comedy on TV (My favorite is still The Office)?

The Goldbergs. I love it because of the 80’s themes they incorporated into every episode. And I watch and rewatch Seinfeld all the time.

Is there anything you’re currently working on?

Two books, actually. One is the second book in the Taming Series which is Nicholas and Grace’s story. And working on a contemporary romance too that begins with the heroine and the hero falling into love when they are in high school, separated by circumstances and clashing with one another again years later.

Who is your favorite author, and if you could ask him/her one question, what would it be?

Oh gosh…I have so many favorites. But I think I would love to ask Margaret Mitchell, the author of Gone with the Wind, how many rewrites of that famous scene did it take before she finally decided “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.” was perfect?

Lightning round:

Ocean or mountains? Mountains–but that’s because I live near the beach and see it all the time.

Yogurt or ice cream?  Ice cream (butter pecan)

Chocolate or Sour Candy?  Chocolate

Jimmy Fallon or Stephen Colbert? Um, can neither be my answer? Lol

Happy or sad ending to a novel? Happily Ever Afters are the best!

Beer or wine?  Wine. And I’m not picky about it! Red, white, merlot, pinot, zin…it’s all good.

Flying or driving?  Flying

Hemingway or Twain? Twain

You’re stranded on a desert island, and you can take two things with you, as well as two people. What and who are you bringing?

Sunscreen and books. And my husband and our dog, Blue.  I would bring my daughter too, but her own husband would be so sad without her and she would miss him lol.

You’re able to sit down with any leader in world history. Who would you choose, what would you talk about, and would you rather have him/her over to your house, or meet at their place of royalty?

Queen Elizabeth I. We’d share a decanter of wine at the Royal Palace. I’d ask her, if she could change one thing, would she change her decision to behead the Earl of Essex for treason or grant him a pardon since she loved him so much?

You can wish for one thing and one thing only (not world peace and no more wishes). What’s it gonna be?

The end of animal abuse and cruelty.

Painting with words

Your book, Kenai’s Thanksgiving, was released in March 2014. Share a passagethat you’d like for us to enjoy.

There once lived a Siberian husky named Kenai. He had beautiful black and white fur, a bushy tail that curled up like a fiddle head, and crystal blue eyes that were full of wonder and a hint of mischief.

You’ve been presented with the opportunity to be a best-selling author, but can never write again, or write forever, but never have a bestseller. Which scenario sounds more tempting?

I would chose being able to write and no best seller. I enjoy writing for its own sake.

If you could live on a college campus and never leave, or live in a small town but be able to travel, which one would you choose?

I’d live in a small town and travel. I already do, and it’s great.

Okay, how about in an amusement park or in an airport?

Both kind of scare me to be honest.

And how about Australia or Scotland?

Scotland

Who is your favorite 90’s band (I’m thinking Counting Crows, Blink 182, Hootie & the Blowfish)?

Not sure.

And what about your favorite comedy on TV (My favorite is still The Office)?

I love everybody loves Raymond.

Is there anything you’re currently working on?

I’m working on a series of childrens books about my Siberian Husky dog named Kenai. My next book is called Kenai’s Thanksgiving.

Who is your favorite author and if you could ask him/her one question, what would it be?

You’re stranded on a desert island and you can take two things with you, as well as two people. What and who are you bringing?

The two things I would bring are paper and pencil for drawing. The two people i’d bring are my girlfriend, and someone who knows how to find food on a deserted island.

You’re able to sit down with any leader in world history. Who would you choose, what would you talk about, and would you rather have him/her over to your house or meet at their place of royalty?

I would like to sit down with John F. Kennedy. We would talk about his vision for America. I would want to meet him at his place. Who doesn’t want to go to the white house?

You can wish for one thing and one thing only, not world peace and no more wishes. What’s it gonna be?

I would wish for an end to human ignorance and bigotry.

My name is Gowon Fisher, and I am a beginning children’s author and illustrator. I have written, illustrated, and self-published two children’s books. The first is called “Kenai’s Thanksgiving,” and it is about a very interesting experience that I had with my siberian Husky dog on Thanksgiving day. The second book is called “The Great Squirrel Rebellion,” and it is about a group of squirrels who go to war with an ornery woman who tries desperately to keep them off her porch. I have also written several short stories. I hope that my writing and illustrations will captivate children and adults alike.

Thank you for joining me today. Tell us in three words how you would best describe your writing.

Adventurous, Magical, Other-worldly.

The final book in your series, Arach, was released in June 2017. Share a passage that you’d like for us to enjoy.

“You dance your life into being. It is your dance.”

He sighed as the markings flew from the walls, tattooing her arms and body.

“Why use her again?” he demanded from the wolf. A crow flew into the cave cawing.

“I am the mother,” she cried in labour.

“But you were human, Durril knows.”

“I was once, I wanted to experience the ecstasy of being human. Then I became who I am, again.”

The wolf struggled in pain, as an ancient being stepped out, electrifying the cave.

“She is the mother, I am the father. She births the new life” the man spoke. His long beard smooth and gray. His eyes flashed blue. His hand rested on the wolfs’ head. The crow settled on his shoulder.

The piper stumbled on the rough rocks, terrified of this wise powerful being. “But why, I thought it was over. I thought they now had a thousand years of peace.”

“A thousand years fly by in the wink of an eye” the god smiled sadly. “Tá sé in am,” he cried to the skies.

“It is time!” she breathed.

You’ve been presented with the opportunity to be a best-selling author, but can never write again, or write forever, but never have a bestseller. Which scenario sounds more tempting?

I would rather write forever, living in a tiny house in the middle of the woods.

If you could live on a college campus and never leave, or live in a small town but be able to travel, which one would you choose?

Small town and travel, my bucket list is a few pages long.

Okay, how about in an amusement park or in an airport?

Neither, not fond of people 🙂

And how about Ireland or Germany?

Ireland, The Arach series is set in Ireland.

Who is your favorite 90’s band (I’m thinking Counting Crows, Blink 182, Hootie & the Blowfish)?

So many to choose from, I will have to go with Guns and Roses.

Are there any good bands out there today that we’ll talk about in 50 years?

Perhaps some of the rock bands like Radiohead and The Foo Fighters.

And what about your favorite comedy on TV (My favorite is still The Office)?

Again many to choose from, but I love the Big Bang Theory and more recent shows, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Is there anything you’re currently working on?

I am working on a spin-off series of short stories of the Arach books, concentrating on the dragon worlds.

Who is your favorite author and if you could ask him/her one question, what would it be?

JRR Tolkien. Show me the way to Middle Earth.

Meet The Author, Rob Queen

Enjoy getting to know, Rob Queen:

B1tYa3KlwxS._UX250_

Thank you for joining me today. Tell us in three words how you would best describe your writing.

Rooted, expansive, human

Your book, “Escape from the Spotlight” is set to release in December 2017. Share a passage that you’d like for us to enjoy.

With the black lights projecting out from the wall, he can see a cluster of thirty bats dangling upside down. They are staring at him, as they normally do whenever one comes into their enclosure. Knowing what they want, Doran slips the remains from his lunch out of his school bag: an orange.

When he has peeled it, he splits it up and spreads the fruit around on the walkway. The bats are not shy to come down and jostle for the fruit. Doran watches them and smells them in. He reaches out with every fiber of his being, to see what makes them them.

And then he is one.

The world becomes a busting explosion of sound. It is so precise that he can hear the heartbeats of the gators below him, slowed to a crawl in the cool weather despite the heaters keeping the enclosures warm. His eyes are far better than he was expecting, nearly as effective as his own human eyes, but everything takes on a wall-eyed curve due to how pronounced they are. His species-mates have shed some of the visible definitions that they had when he was human; now, they are scents and sounds combined with their physical appearance. Closing his eyes, the other senses become a rushing intake of scratching and chewing and leathery movement coupled with the pleasant tang of bat musk accented with the sweet scent of the orange.

You’ve been presented with the opportunity to be a best-selling author, but can never write again, or write forever, but never have a bestseller. Which scenario sounds more tempting?

So this question is essentially asking if I want to sell out. Read between the lines, and you can usually find the speaker’s – or author’s – main point. I see what this is. As to the question, the only thing that would prevent me from writing more is death. If I happen to get rich while I’m writing, then so be it. That is only an occasional symptom of the affliction. What is the affliction? Compulsive creation.

If you could live on a college campus and never leave, or live in a small town but be able to travel, which one would you choose?

I’ve traveled to quite a number of places already. 7 years of my life was spent outside my home country, a number were spent on the road going up and down the East Coast, touring from horse show to horse show. Doing so is highly enjoyable. Would I miss it? Well, I retired from horses about a decade ago, and yes, I miss it, but it is one of those “better to have loved and lost than have never loved at all” deals. I would miss it, sure, but honestly, I kind of love my college campus. Evergreen State College, Olympia, WA. Trees all around me, a good library, ample places to write. Banishment here wouldn’t be so bad, though all my students do complain about the food. But that’s what students do. It’s part and parcel of the job.

Okay, how about in an amusement park or in an airport?

Amusement parks are distracting. Airports are intense locations in which to engage in character studies. I’m a story-teller. There are far more variety of stories in airports than there are in amusement parks. Moreover, “The Terminal” starring Tom Hanks was a highly enjoyable film, one that actually could carry its own narrative. But can you think of any movies wholly set in an amusement park? No. I’m honestly asking because I can’t, for the life of me, come up with any. “Zombieland” ended in one, but that was only a part of the overall narrative.

And how about Australia or Scotland?

Yes. Thanks. I wasn’t aware you were giving free tickets there to both locations.

Who is your favorite 90’s band (I’m thinking Counting Crows, Blink 182, Hootie & the Blowfish)?

Ha! Ha ha HA! Though Hootie gave a really fun show back in the 90’s. I will give them props for that. No, my favorite 90’s band is probably Linkin Park. I was utterly heartbroken to hear of Chester Bennington’s (one of the band’s lead vocalists) passing this year. Depression is powerful. Chris Cornell (another fantastic 90’s era musician), Robin Williams, Kurt Cobain, Jim Carrey (had he not found art)… all these great talents succumbed to their depression. This is an illness that is often overlooked or dismissed as being just a “First World Problem” but it’s not. It’s a genuine illness that claws at the brain and soul, eroding it slowly over time. And all it takes is one moment of weakness, where the positives just don’t counterbalance the negatives. Not anymore.

Wow. That kind of got a little dark there. On a more positive note, Dave Grohl has seemed to maintain his great sense of humor following Cobain’s death, and in doing so, has brought us consistently enjoyable music for the past 20 years or so! Yay, Dave!

Are there any good bands out there today that we’ll talk about in 50 years?

That started now or are starting now? Yeah, a Burlington, Vermont band called Gneiss. Very talented. They’re going to blow up. Check them out.

As for bands that are still around, Phish. Honestly, how is it that people are talking about these guys more? This summer, they did a “Baker’s Dozen” concerts in Madison Square Garden. It was an actual residency in Madison Square Garden. 13 days. Sold Out. Over those 13 days, they did 2 full sets of music and did not repeat a single song. How the hell many bands could possibly say that they did or could do that? How are we not talking about how ridiculously amazing that is?

And what about your favorite comedy on TV (My favorite is still The Office)?

“The Office”? Sorry, but I hated that show. Hated “Seinfeld” and “Punk’d,” too, for that matter. And probably for the same reasons. I see no reason to celebrate incompetence. Punk’d was just a show about someone being an ongoing dickhead to other people. I got no time for that – there’s enough evil in the world to enjoy it. “Jackass”? That’s ok, because it’s an insular group being stupid and upping the ante of personal entertainment at their own expense. It actually takes a certain degree of masochistic genius to come up with the torture they put one another through. The Office, however, is just one sad sap in charge of a bunch of people that might be better off without him. If I wanted to torture myself, I’d have myself waterboarded rather than be forced to suffer forced awkwardness that just makes me feel dirtier than a fifty cent hooker in a pig sty.

As for favorites… um… yeah… don’t watch too much TV. Does “Avatar: The Last Airbender” count? Aang, Sokka, and Tosh are pretty damn hilarious. If not, then probably “The Big Bang Theory.” I’m a nerd at heart, and I can appreciate the various aspects of the crew in that show. Even if it sometimes does come across as a non-nerd regurgitating nerdisms. But – and this is true for all cultural appropriation, I feel – sometimes (YES, Some – not all – but SOME) a culture (or subculture, and yes, the Phish Phan, Transformer nerd, animal lover, pseudo-my-gods-is-this-becoming-a-rant-of-whatever-else-I-am is part of the culture or subculture that BBT mocks) needs a good auteur to present the challenges and problems that that culture / subculture endures, even if there is a certain degree of stereotype to it. As long as the material is presented honestly, then it’s cool. “Big Bang Theory” does tend to present such things somewhat honestly, but honest within the confines of the peculiar characters, and the situations that they use such things for. Which, I guess, works.

Is there anything you’re currently working on?

Yup. As of writing this, I am putting the finishing touches on my novel “Escape from the Spotlight.” It is my first foray into the Young Adult scene, which is a genre that I have long enjoyed but that I honestly had no real intention of ever writing for. Funny how that works out. Anyway, Doran Titus is your average fifteen year-old whose family maintains and runs an animal sanctuary. As an aside, animals are wicked fascinating creatures that add so much to a story. Luckily I didn’t lose the story for the elephants taking up the room. Anyway, Doran learns that he has the actual ability to change into animals. But if the Trump Years of the USA have taught us anything, it’s that people hate. People hate big. So the big question for Doran is how does he learn to cope and master these amazing abilities while also being able to confide in the people around him. Who can he trust to share his secret with? How will he effect a school/work/sport/shape-changing balance? In the process, it puts him under the proverbial spotlight of society’s collective judgment. Not a great place for a 15-year-old kid to be, that’s for sure. Earlier, I mentioned Depression, and I know that for a lot of people coming to grips with their own sexuality, gender identity, or even – just simply: identity, suffer the massive weight of the big questions “Who am I?” “Why me?” “Can’t I just go back to the way things were?” Doran fits right into this group, only instead of the very real problems mentioned above, this inaugural book (of what will become a series of sorts) explores the sheer vicarious safety of fantasy.

“Escape” will be released via Amazon.com’s Createspace in December or so. An Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign is being held through October to help finance its publication.

Other things that I’m working on are a Fan-Fiction full-length novel starring DC Comics’ Vixen. The story is all done, and every Thursday, on Wattpad, I’m uploading a new chapter. As of the third week in October, there are 10 chapters up and available to all. Lots of fun. Good superhero action, with some pretty deep conflicts and consequences.

Finally, I’m working on a comic book with the talented artist, David Dace. Sadly, I can’t say much more about it than the simple premise: its principal protagonist is a reverse vampire. What is a reverse vampire, exactly? Well, guess we’ll just have to cross our fingers that one of the comic companies out there will bite, and then everyone can find out.

Who is your favorite author and if you could ask him/her one question, what would it be?

Neil Gaiman. No questions. He signed my copy of “The Ocean at the End of the Lane” and drew a Cthulu-like doodle in it. Beautiful work. Does that mean I have anything to ask him? Not really. If I shook his hand, I’d probably just thank him for all his wonderful words, and the brilliant syntax that he created with them all. I dunno. Maybe also, I’d ask if he wanted to change lives with me, so that I could live life through his bones, and see just how a mad genius like him could string words together so beautifully.

You’re stranded on a desert island and you can take two things with you, as well as two people. What and who are you bringing?

A Transformer with a relatively easy transformation. A Swiss Army Knife. The Wonder Twins – one can turn into any animal, the other can turn into any liquid. The pair are almost fully created with the concept of desert island survival in mind.

You’re able to sit down with any leader in world history. Who would you choose, what would you talk about, and would you rather have him/her over to your house or meet at their place of royalty?

See, that’s the thing. I would never want to meet any leaders. I would have absolutely nothing to ask them. I mean, what do you say to Napoleon? “Watch out for Waterloo!” Doing so would change history. Does that mean that Napoleon isn’t fascinating? Not at all. I’d just have nothing to ask him. I enjoy him from a distance, and appreciate all that he did for people (yes, both good and bad. Everyone always needs a villain). If I sat down and talked to a leader from a different time, I’d be putting myself at risk of saying something that would get myself killed, or else I’d put them at risk of learning something that they shouldn’t know. Then the whole timeline would implode in a paradox. That said, I’ve heard that The Earl of Sandwich had some brilliant dining ideas ….

You can wish for one thing and one thing only, not world peace and no more wishes. What’s it gonna be?

I’m copping out here. I’m going to say that I’d wish people had the wisdom to observe without judgment. But honestly, we do that all the time, and that’s a stupid thing to wish for. That was an ironic twist, wasn’t it? Aren’t I clever? No, honestly, I’d wish for people to not take themselves quite so seriously. While I wouldn’t say that life is Joker-level (Dark Knight version, RIP Heath Ledger) funny, it is pretty silly. I mean, have you ever seen a platypus? I’d wish people were more willing to laugh with each other rather than at each other. Maybe that would make people a little more tolerant of the amazing variety of life that we have on this planet.

Thank you for joining me today. Tell us in three words how you would best describe your writing.

Articulate, clean, and pithy.

Your book, The Altered: Subsist, was released April 22, 2016. Share a passage that you’d like for us to enjoy.

Then several things happen at once. Daren’s face turns from playful to horror and he yells my name as I feel strong arms grab me across the waist. I see Mr. Forest look up and aim his bow as Daren begins to climb the ladder. I’m pulled back, hard, and yanked to a door that probably leads to the store below us. I try kicking and hitting and biting to get away, but it’s too late. I’m being taken. I’m going to become an altered. Or worse.

You’ve been presented with the opportunity to be a best-selling author, but can never write again, or write forever, but never have a bestseller. Which scenario sounds more tempting?

Even though being a best-seller is on my bucket list, I would give it up if it meant never getting to write again. I’m not me when I’m not writing. I will continue to write for the rest of my life, even if I never sell more than a few copies.

If you could live on a college campus and never leave, or live in a small town but be able to travel, which one would you choose?

Considering I already live in a small town, I’d have to be really unhappy to choose a college campus. Living in a small town isn’t so bad. We can go wherever and do whatever everyone else does, it just takes a little longer to get to the city.

Okay, how about in an amusement park or in an airport?

I would probably choose an airport because they have a bar area where I can sit and write and enjoy the occasional drink.

And how about Ireland or Germany?

I would move to Ireland in an instant. From the country to the cities to the culture and the accent, everything in Ireland sounds completely amazing.

Who is your favorite 90’s band (I’m thinking Counting Crows, Blink 182, Hootie & the Blowfish)?

I honestly don’t have a favorite 90’s band. I was born in ’91 and didn’t really get interested in music until I was around twelve, and then it was more solo artists than bands. Hootie and the Blowfish were pretty good, though.

Are there any good bands out there today that we’ll talk about in 50 years?

I don’t know about everyone else, but I have several bands I’ll still love in fifty years: Rascal Flatts, The Band Perry, Lady Antebellum, Sugarland, Skillet. Probably a ton more.

And what about your favorite comedy on TV (My favorite is still The Office)?

I have to pick just one? Friends is my all-time favorite, followed by Roseanne, then Will and Grace (which is back, btw). If I’m picking from current shows it would be Will and Grace, The Good Place, The Ranch, and Grace and Frankie. Yep. I can’t pick just one.

Is there anything you’re currently working on?

I have a very long work in progress list. I have a young adult, science fiction novel I’m working on, I’m editing three short stories, I have to edit two young chapter book, I’m writing a young chapter book, there is another short story about mermaids I’m working on, and a ton more story plots that I have written down.

Who is your favorite author and if you could ask him/her one question, what would it be?

I have two favorite authors: Jodi Picoult and J.M. Ames. I would ask Jodi why, with so many credentials, did she choose writing as a career. I would ask J.M. why he waiting so long to become a writer, instead of starting as a teen like most of us.

Beer or wine?  Beer

Flying or driving?  Driving

Hemingway or Twain?  Hemingway

You’re stranded on a desert island, and you can take two things with you, as well as two people. What and who are you bringing?

I would bring a tarp to catch water so we don’t dehydrate, and matches to start fires to cook food. I would also bring my husband so he can hunt and tell me which plants were edible, and my dad so he could build us a boat to get off the island.

You’re able to sit down with any leader in world history. Who would you choose, what would you talk about, and would you rather have him/her over to your house, or meet at their place of royalty?

I would meet up with John F. Kennedy, who could have been America’s best president if given the chance. I would love to shake his hand and personally ask him what plans he had to make our country better. I would definitely meet at their place because I think my house may be too small for his security team.

You can wish for one thing and one thing only (not world peace and no more wishes). What’s it gonna be?

I would wish for the unlimited opportunity to travel where I want, when I want, for the rest of my, all expenses paid.

Thank you for joining me today. Tell us in three words how you would best describe your writing.

Inspired By Travel.

Your book, “Lisa Goes to India” is set to release in January 2018. Please share a passage with us that you’d like for us to enjoy.

Jonathan and Ravi started running around with the monkeys. “Be careful, you guys,” shouted Daniel. It was too late. The boys and the monkeys were laughing and running, heading towards the Taj Mahal. To get away from Ravi and Jonathan, the monkeys climbed all the way up Taj Mahal to the top. “Whew,” said Bali, the monkey. Then, looking down, he realized it was easier climbing up than it was going back down. They were stuck!

You’ve been presented with the opportunity to be a best-selling author, but can never write again, or write forever, but never have a bestseller. Which scenario sounds more tempting?

Write forever but never have a bestseller. I can live with #2 on the New York Times Best Seller List 😊.

If you could live on a college campus and never leave, or live in a small town but be able to travel, which one would you choose?

Super easy choice! Live in a small town but be able to travel. Unless that college campus was in Tahiti or Fiji……

Okay, how about in an amusement park or in an airport?

Amusement Park. Last time I checked, Airports don’t have Roller Coasters, Games, Shows, and Fireworks.

And how about Ireland or Germany?

This is a tough choice, but if I have to pick one, I’ll go with Ireland. I don’t tend to learn new languages easily, so I’d assimilate better into Ireland. Unless I’m in a part that only speaks Gaelic.

Who is your favorite 90’s band (I’m thinking Counting Crows, Blink 182, Hootie & the Blowfish)?

Not many people may remember them, but my favorite 90’s band is Tripping Daisy. Their first album, Bill, is incredible. Some may remember their song “I Got a Girl” from their second album, I Am an Elastic Firecracker, as that was a fairly big hit on radio and MTV and got skewered by Beavis and Butthead. I’ve re-discovered them recently and their entire back catalog. Huge fan of their singer, Tim DeLaughter, who went on to front two other bands, Polyphonic Spree and Preteen Zenith. I was happy to learn Tripping Daisy had reunited this year.

Are there any good bands out there today that we’ll talk about in 50 years?

I wish there were. I don’t see bands of today sporting 40+ years of longevity like the Rolling Stones and U2. Of course, I could be wrong and One Direction will still be HUGE in 2067.

And what about your favorite comedy on TV (My favorite is still The Office)?

The Big Bang Theory, hands down. I never get tired of watching it, and the characters are brilliantly written. In the 80’s and 90’s, it was Married With Children. You gotta love Al Bundy. We’ve all felt like him at one time or another.

Is there anything you’re currently working on?

I have multiple projects going on. My first novel, “The Vacationer”, is under developmental edit. Targeting a 2018 release. It is a harrowing story about a man experiencing a life crisis as he journeys across the globe on a path of self-destruction. Will he be saved? Can he be saved? Amazing Lisa children’s book series: The fourth installment, “Lisa Goes to India”, is currently being illustrated. Rhythm’s World children’s book series: The third book, and the start of a series of books themed around travel, called “Rhythm’s World Tour Vol 1: North America” is currently being illustrated.

Putting the final touches on a new blog series about travel called Diary of a Travelman. It’s based on another book I wrote, featuring humorous and poignant travel stories from my journeys around the world. Debuting November 2017.

Planning a Podcast that will spotlight up and coming authors and travel bloggers. Tentatively titled “Book It! with Patrick Adams”, I’m looking to give a voice and a spotlight to those with a creative vision. Targeting a debut in January 2018.

Who is your favorite author and if you could ask him/her one question, what would it be?

My favorite author is J.K. Rowling. My question would be: “Did you map out the entire Harry Potter series story before you wrote the first book?” I’m curious how much she planned that wonderful story out over seven books.

Lightning round:

Ocean or mountains? Oceans. Less climbing involved.

Yogurt or ice cream? Ice Cream!

Chocolate or Sour Candy? Chocolate in a landslide.

Jimmy Fallon or Stephen Colbert? Jimmy Fallon. Loved him on SNL.

Happy or sad ending to a novel? Happy, always.

Beer or wine? Wine. Red.

Flying or driving? Flying. Gets me there faster with no traffic jams.

Hemingway or Twain? Twain. Not sure why.

You’re stranded on a desert island, and you can take two things with you, as well as two people. What and who are you bringing?

Things: A spear for fishing and a flashlight.
People: My wife and daughter. Because I’ll surely get an earful if I don’t pick them.

You’re able to sit down with any leader in world history. Who would you choose, what would you talk about, and would you rather have him/her over to your house, or meet at their place of royalty?

I would choose Queen Elizabeth II of England. I would read her my book, “Lisa Goes to England”, because she stars in it in one scene. If I could get her seal of approval on my book, skies the limit! We would definitely meet at her place of royalty!

You can wish for one thing and one thing only (not world peace and no more wishes). What’s it gonna be?

Since you didn’t exclude money, I’d have to say a bank account with $1 Billion dollars in it. My family and kids would be set for generations and I could definitely be a full-time writer and traveler 😊

Meet The Author, Warren Alexander

Enjoy getting to know, Warren Alexander:

21942187_10210677071465445_2107425971_n

Thank you for joining me today. Tell us in three words how you would best describe your writing.

Funny, clever, nettlesome.

Your book, Cousin’s Club, was released in April 2017. Share a passage that you’d like for us to enjoy.

“Look! Here’s an envelope from Flora,” my mother said, “but it’s empty.”

“What’s the postmark?”

“Los Alamos, New Mexico.”

“Isn’t that where Davy Crockett died?”

You’ve been presented with the opportunity to be a best-selling author, but can never write again, or write forever, but never have a bestseller. Which scenario sounds more tempting?

I write, so I can write some more. I would be shocked if any novel of mine became a best-seller. In any event, I would refuse any Faustian arrangement.

If you could live on a college campus and never leave, or live in a small town but be able to travel, which one would you choose?

If you chose either Princeton, NJ or Berkeley, CA then you could have both.

Okay, how about in an amusement park or in an airport?

I found neither amusing nor comfortable.

And how about Ireland or Germany?

Very narrow and arbitrary choices. The Irish literary tradition is incalculable, especially when you consider their small population.

Who is your favorite 90’s band (I’m thinking Counting Crows, Blink 182, Hootie & the Blowfish)?

I am an old guy and like the oxymoronic category Classic Rock. So, in the same vein, I would take REM.

Are there any good bands out there today that we’ll talk about in 50 years?

Is there a group called “I Haven’t A Clue.”

And what about your favorite comedy on TV (My favorite is still The Office)?

This is a subject I could actually speak about for days and never bore myself. Others surely, myself, no. I like comedies with an edge, wit, and with a large dash of irreverence. Of today’s lot, I like Larry David and Veep with Julia-Louise Dreyfus.

Is there anything you’re currently working on?

I am working on a satiric novel about business. It is my revenge after 45 years of working. I am also working on a short story about a saxophone player and a changing neighborhood.

Who is your favorite author and if you could ask him/her one question, what would it be?

Laurence Sterne. This is no one magic question or answer. And if you think there is, you will miss the last 50 years of your life.

516mk3ZUZIL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_

Lightning round:

Ocean or mountains?

If I am on skis, the mountains, in a boat well…..

Yogurt or ice cream?

When you start to hear kids scream after a ball game, “We want yogurt,” it is time to move to a cave.

Chocolate or Sour Candy?

When was the last time someone said that they could not live without sour candy? Can you imagine bringing giving sour candies on Valentine’s Day? Now, there’s a guy who will be lonely for a while.

Jimmy Fallon or Stephen Colbert?

Colbert, Fallon is Late Night Lite.

Happy or sad ending to a novel?

I hate happy endings but sad endings must make sense.

Beer or wine?

Diet Coke.

Flying or driving?

Don’t own a car or a plane.

Hemingway or Twain?

Twain. Wit and insight. Hemingway always gets in his own way with his macho BS. As time passes Hemingway will become more of a historical curiosity than a literary lion.

You’re stranded on a desert island, and you can take two things with you, as well as two people. What and who are you bringing?

Something better than a volleyball.  I would take my wife and someone who would know better than to recommend a diet of seaweed.

You’re able to sit down with any leader in world history. Who would you choose, what would you talk about, and would you rather have him/her over to your house, or meet at their place of royalty?

Nebuchadnezzar so I can ask him what his friends called him, but at his place because I doubt he would he would bring the right cookies. I would choose either Václav Havel or Nelson Mandela and ask the differences between being a dissident and the leader of the same nation.

You can wish for one thing and one thing only (not world peace and no more wishes). What’s it gonna be?

An appreciation of others.

Thank you for joining me today. Tell us in three words how you would best describe your writing.

Inspired, adventurous, relationships.

Your books, Palace of the Twelve Pillars trilogy, e-formats were released in  2013/2014. The print format of Book One was released in November 2016, and the other two books will hopefully follow soon in print format, in the next few months.

Share a passage that you’d like for us to enjoy.

Twin princes Joachim and Brandan come of age and are thrust into adulthood as they enter a world torn apart by war, kidnapping and betrayal.

As the twins are crowned Kings of Mahorg and Crato, and wed to powerful women, each will deal with the loss of their parents in his own unique way. The choices each makes will set their world on a cataclysmic course that only loss and sacrifice can deter.

Is their love and faith strong enough to see Joachim and Brandan through the veil of evil blanketing the land, or will it fail and be left to their children to save?

You’ve been presented with the opportunity to be a best-selling author, but can never write again, or write forever, but never have a bestseller. Which scenario sounds more tempting?

Write forever, but never have a bestseller.

If you could live on a college campus and never leave, or live in a small town but be able to travel, which one would you choose?

Live in a small town, but be able to travel.

Okay, how about in an amusement park or in an airport?

Airport.

And how about Australia or Scotland?

I’d love to do both, but since you are making me chose, I would have to say Scotland.

Who is your favorite 90’s band (I’m thinking Counting Crows, Blink 182, Hootie & the Blowfish)?

Bon Jovi or U2.

Are there any good bands out there today that we’ll talk about in 50 years?

Disturbed or Imagine Dragons.

And what about your favorite comedy on TV (My favorite is still The Office)?

Last Man Standing.

Is there anything you’re currently working on?

Finishing up a Middle grade series, Sequel to Palace of the Twelve Pillars trilogy.

Who is your favorite author and if you could ask him/her one question, what would it be?

There are so many to choose from. If I must narrow it down I would say JRR Tolkein. Where did all your wonderful characters and settings come from?

Bible and laptop (so I can write), My husband and Darlene Reilley (my best friend).

You’re able to sit down with any leader in world history. Who would you choose, what would you talk about, and would you rather have him/her over to your house or meet at their place of royalty?

Jesus, I ask for answers to all the questions that plague humanity, like which way does the toilet paper come off the roll. I think I would like to meet at His house.

You can wish for one thing and one thing only, not world peace and no more wishes. What’s it gonna be?

I wish that my books would influence young adults in their life choices.

Thank you for joining me today. Tell us in three words, or less, how you would best describe your writing.

Family oriented.

Your book, The Destiny Trilogy, is the first of three in the bestselling series. Share a passage that you’d like for us to enjoy.

The golden light encircled Jack and Maddie, and when the bird moved in to swallow them in its great beak, a blinding flash split the darkness and the eagle vaporized.

You’ve been presented with the opportunity to be a best-selling author, but can never write again, or write forever, but never have a bestseller. Which scenario sounds more tempting?

Write forever. I always have a story to tell and would never be able to hold them in.

If you could live on a college campus and never leave, or live in a small town but be able to travel, which one would you choose?

A small town would suit me just fine.

Okay, how about in an amusement park or in an airport?

Amusement park, nothing like a roller coaster to get the creativity flowing.

And how about Australia or Scotland?

Australia.

Who is your favorite 90’s band (I’m thinking Counting Crows, Blink 182, Hootie & the Blowfish)?

None that I can think of. I’m a classic rock and oldies man. Give me The Who and Elvis, and I’m good.

Are there any good bands out there today that we’ll talk about in 50 years?

No.

And what about your favorite comedy on TV (My favorite is still The Office)?

I like The Big Bang Theory, but my favorite has to be The Odd Couple.

Is there anything you’re currently working on?

A young adult paranormal detective story, untitled as of yet.

Who is your favorite author and if you could ask him/her one question, what would it be?

Don’t really have one favorite author, but would like to find out how H.G. Wells was able to look into the future so accurately.

Gandhi, I would meet him at his place, and the subject would be world religions.
