Today is day 14 of my Insanity workout (rest day), and I feel amazing. All of the soreness from the intense workouts went away after the first week, and it’s gotten easier to stick to my diet. Just to give you a little background info, I’ve put on close to 30 pounds in the past 14 months. I had lost 40 pounds until I tore my ACL playing ultimate frisbee, July, 2012. Then, I re-popped it in February of this year, playing basketball.
So, I went from running 5-10 miles, 3-5 times a week, to struggling just to keep up with my push ups and sit ups. But the time has come for me to get back in shape, and Insanity was exactly what I needed to do so. I log everything I eat, and all of my fitness, at http://www.livestrong.com/myplate/
I’ve stayed between 1,500-2,200 calories each day, with my average being 1,952 in week 1, and 2,048 in week 2. My workouts have burned between 400-700 calories each time. What I’m really encouraged by is how much I’ve been able to cut my fat intake. In the two weeks since I started, I was allowed to eat 938 grams of fat, while still losing weight. Instead, I only consumed 544 grams.
I’m down 6 pounds, and feel much better. I feel more positive about myself, and am adding muscle in parts of my body that I’ve never had before. I took before pictures, and will share them after 30 days, and then again after 60 days to show you how the program has worked for me. I’ve also lost an inch on my waist, and can fit in a size smaller (pants) already.
The workouts are hard… really hard. I ran a half marathon in April, 2012, and these workouts push me as hard or harder than running 13.1 miles. Be encouraged that it’s never too late to get in shape, and we all have to start somewhere. I gain weight easily, but I also lose it easily… if by easily you mean working incredibly hard.
