Today, we’re going to meet a creative chap (insert smiley face here) from the UK, William O’Brien. So, get in your car and drive on the left side of the road as we get to know William.
You’re the author of PETER: A DARKENED FAIRYTALE and I’ve got it on my to-read list. What is your favorite line/excerpt from the book?
So difficult to choose… I really enjoy some of the character dialogue but I do feel more at home with the descriptive sections. The following is an excerpt from Ch 4 – The Shylong.
The glimmer of the sun cut through the partially covered trees as it began to melt the crisp snow on the ground. Rustic reds dominated the scattered fruits which had fallen from the overhanging branches among some sunlit golden leaves of yellow. Peter was apprehensive, as a sense of magic hung in the air. He watched as the delicate daffodils danced in the morning breeze. A green-and-black bristled caterpillar was crawling over a wide textured leaf with incredible balance and no sense of urgency. It was a most enchanted place, where the seasons intertwined and became one. Newly hatched tadpoles flittered through a shallow of water as a pond skater passed by with speed and grace. The air was clean and fresh. It seemed to cleanse, rushing into his mouth and filling the voids in Peter’s body. The gathered moisture was sliding down razor blades of grass, and he saw a group of red ladybirds aesthetically arranged upon the olive background.
What is your favorite thing about being a writer?
I like to let my imagination wander and to create something out of nothing.
If you could live in any city in the world, which one would you choose?
I am not really a fan of city life- anywhere rural/semi-rural. The middle of nowhere sounds great!
What is your favorite TV from the 90’s (I love Seinfeld and Friends)?
I do love Friends- so well written.
What are you working on now?
1) ‘Peter, Ghosts and Stardust’ – a book of poetry which may contain a few short stories
2) A follow-up novel to PETER: A DARKENED FAIRYTALE
3) Another poetry book- very dark
4) Writing a script to hopefully stage a short theatre play of PETER: A DARKENED FAIRYTALE
Who is your favorite author and if you could ask him/her one question, what would it be?
Lewis Carroll – Do you want to co-write?
Lightning round:
Ocean or mountains? Ocean
Chicken or steak? Chicken
Bananas or oranges? Bananas
Action or love story? Action
Beer or wine? Wine
Cruise or cabin getaway? Cabin
Movie theater or the traditional theatre? Movie
